Are you tired of seeing a huge list
of available fonts when using your
desktop publishing, word processing,
graphics software and what not?
I was! What's really strange is when designing
a website you can only choose (and use) fonts
that your visitors have on their
system...so in essence, only
documents you intend to print (in
house) can benefit from having tons
of fonts. So having lots of
fonts constantly installed (and
active) only wastes memory and can
slow your computer. Overview
Fonts++ was created to simplify
fonts usage by allowing you to
switch between two groups ("All
TrueType Fonts" & "My Favorite
Fonts"). You can
determine which TrueType fonts are
included (in addition to the core OS
& web safe fonts) in the "My
Favorite Fonts" groups.
Example
On my computer, the "All TrueType
Fonts" group has 225 fonts (in 122
unique font families - regular,
bold, italic, bold italic), and the
"My Favorite Fonts" group only
contains 55 fonts (22 unique font
families). That's a big
difference! Of course I can
browse and activate any TrueType
font I need (when needed) so I don't
lose anything.
How does it work?
When run (for the first time), Fonts++
will scan your system (the Windows
Font Folder, usually located at
c:\windows\fonts) and add all
TrueType/OpenType fonts it finds to its
fonts database. It will also create
the "My Favorite Fonts" group which
contains the core operating system & web
safe TrueType fonts it found on your
computer (also creating the "All
TrueType Fonts" group too).
Usage is simple! Just
select the group you want to
activate and BOOM! those TrueType
fonts are available...no reboot
necessary.
